NTU and Hyundai Motor Group are advancing its research collaboration in the field of new energy and smart manufacturing technologies.

The agreements were inked at the Singapore-Korea Business Forum, Ritz Carlton Singapore, on October 8, witnessed by Ahn Duk-geun Ahn, Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy of the Republic of Korea, and Dr Tan See Leng, Minister for Manpower and Second Minister for Trade and Industry of Singapore.

Under the first agreement, NTU and Hyundai will collaboratively develop alternative energy sources, to contribute to Singapore’s ambition to achieve carbon neutrality. Key areas of focus include hydrogen production technologies and advanced energy systems.

A second agreement was also signed with the Hyundai Motor Group Innovation Center Singapore (HMGICS) and the Agency for Science, Technology, and Research (A*STAR) to establish a tripartite corporate lab for innovative manufacturing domains including AI, robotics and 3D printing.

The research partnership aims to accelerate innovations in the adoption of innovative technologies, with the goal of creating a collaborative future mobility ecosystem in Singapore. This builds on NTU’s previous partnerships with Hyundai, as its first academic research partner under HMGICS, and joint research projects on advanced solutions for the manufacturing of electric vehicles (EVs).

“The research partnerships between NTU Singapore and Hyundai Motor Group reflect how close collaboration with industry is vital in developing innovative and relevant solutions to address real world issues, including the race to carbon neutrality,” said Professor Lam Khin Yong, Vice President (Industry), NTU.

“We will continue to build on our long-standing partnership with Hyundai Motor Group, leveraging NTU’s core strengths in areas such as sustainable energy, AI, robotics, 3D printing, and advanced materials, to develop innovative and sustainable solutions for Singapore and the global society.”
