NTU tops amongst Singapore universities with the most number of subjects in the global subject rankings
In this year’s QS World University Rankings by Subject 2025, NTU has the highest number of subjects ranked, among universities in Singapore.
NTU has 43 subjects ranked in the global tables. Leading the way for NTU are six subjects in the global top 5, all of which are ranked No. 1 in Asia.

- No. 5: Data Science and Artificial Intelligence
The rankings show NTU’s strengths in the high demand fields of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence where NTU is ranked 5th in the world and 1st in Asia, as well as 6th in Computer Science & Information Systems.
NTU has also continued to maintain its premier positions in its academic stronghold subjects both globally and in Asia. Materials Science (No 2 globally and 1st in Asia), Library & Information Management(3rd globally and 1st in Asia), Communication & Media Studies (4th globally and 1st in Asia), Electrical & Electronic Engineering (4th globally and 1st in Asia) and Education (8th globally).
NTU now has 11 subjects in their global top 10s and a total of 35 subjects ranked in the global top 50s. NTU received recognition across both its emerging disciplines as well as for its established academic strongholds.
Other top-performing subjects include Chemistry (8th), Civil & Structural Engineering (9th) and Chemical Engineering (10th).
Three new subjects broke into the global Top 20 this year: Art and Design (19th), Accounting & Finance (20th), and Mathematics (20th).

With 48 ranked entries, NTU is the most represented Singaporean university in this year’s rankings. It has 18 subjects in the global top 20, including second place in Materials Science and top-five positions in Data Science & AI, Mechanical Engineering, and Communication & Media Studies. These results reflect the university’s sustained excellence in research and education, its strategic focus on innovation, and its commitment to equipping graduates with future-ready skills.”
NTU’s 48 ranked entries include 43 subjects and five broad subject areas: Social Sciences & Management, Natural Sciences, Life Sciences & Medicine, Engineering & Technology, and Arts & Humanities.
