Assoc Prof Suzanne Choo Shen Li publishes a book chapter and speaks at the Teachers Conference & Excel Fest 2023

Dr Suzanne Choo Shen Li, Associate Professor at the English Language and Literature Academic Group (ELL AG), wrote a book chapter titled “Doing Justice to the Other: Developing Cosmopolitan Dispositions Through Critical-Ethical Pedagogies in Global Literacies Education” in the Critical Perspectives on Global Literacies: Bridging Research and Practice book. The first part of the chapter makes a case for strengthening critical-ethical engagements in global literacies learning as opposed to a decontextualized, instrumental approach to critical thinking observed in many global education frameworks, and in the second part, she distills key pedagogical principles and practices of critical-ethical engagements in literacies learning.

She was also invited to speak for Spotlight session at the Teachers Conference & Excel Fest 2023, where she shared her keynote titled “From Reading the Word to Reading the World: Developing Ethical and Global Thinkers through Literature”, where she aimed to provide an understanding of the key principles of ethical criticism and demonstrate how aesthetic appreciation and ethical criticism can work together to deepen and extend students' critical engagements with texts.
