Asst/Prof Edward Park from NIE delivered a keynote address at the International Conference on Green Technology and Management

On 15th November 2024, Asst/Prof Edward Park from NIE delivered a keynote address at the International Conference on Green Technology and Management (IFGTM) 2024 in Binh Duong Province, Vietnam. Organized by Thu Dau Mot University, the conference convened researchers, educators, policymakers, and community leaders to discuss strategies for sustaining resources and the environment in the pursuit of smart city development.

In his keynote titled “Sand mining as one of the most critical environmental challenges”, Asst/Prof Park presented findings from MOE AcRF Tier 2 projects. He addressed the primary drivers and far-reaching impacts of sand mining in the Mekong Delta and the region, underscoring the urgent need for sustainable management strategies. The presentation highlighted actionable policy recommendations aimed at mitigating environmental degradation, promoting responsible resource extraction, and ensuring the long-term stability of riverine ecosystems and communities reliant on these resources.

Complementing this, Dr. Tran Duc Dung (Senior Research Fellow) shared insights on salinity intrusion influenced by climate change and human activities in the Mekong Delta. Together, their presentations contributed to advancing informed policymaking and fostering sustainability practices to address Vietnam's pressing environmental challenges.
