Dr Lim Yang Teck Kenneth and his students publish an article at the 15th Annual International Conference on Education and New Learning Technologies
Dr Lim Yang Teck Kenneth, Senior Education Research Scientist at the Centre for Research in Pedagogy and Practice (CRPP), co-wrote a paper titled " Utilising Deep Learning in Singapore primary school Mathematical word problems" alongside his students, Jin Zeng and James D. Tan. The paper was published in the Proceedings of the 15th annual International Conference on Education and New Learning Technologies, in the session on Data Sciences and AI in Education, which was held in a hybrid format from 3 July 2023 to 5 July 2023. The paper describes a deep neural solver which Dr Lim's team designed and trained to solve Singapore mathematics word problems and to provide equations as explanation, by using an Encoder-Decoder model which uses recurrent neural networks (RNN).
Dr Lim and his team have a strong trajectory in Data Sciences and AI in Education, and were also awarded a grant as part of the MOE Tertiary Research Fund scheme in 2021 for research in "Helping students learn coding with automatic feedback and analytics".
