Prof Tan Oon Seng Speaks at International Education Conferences

Prof Tan Oon Seng, Director of NIE’s Centre for Research in Child Development, was invited to speak at three international education events between October to December 2019.

The first event was the China Annual Conference for International Education & Expo 2019, which was held in Beijing, China from 17 to 19 October 2019 and themed “Education 2035: A Dialogue with the Future of the World”. During this forum, Prof Tan gave a keynote address entitled “Early Childhood Development in Singapore: An Integrated Perspective”. The forum was attended by high-level government officials from China, foreign Ministers for Education as well as distinguished scholars and entrepreneurs from around the world.

The second event was the Global Education Summit, which also was held in Beijing, China from 24 to 26 November 2019. At this Summit, Prof Tan was part of the Keynote Panel on the theme of “Basic and Higher Education for the Future”, and he also chaired an International Innovation sub-forum that comprised a panel of Singaporean entrepreneurs Woo Yen Yen (CEO, Yumcha Schools), John Tan (CEO, Sat Kids), Yi Xian Ng (Executive Director, Eton House), Boonsan Gan (CBO, CommonTown) and Hazel Wei (CEO, Joni.AI).

The third event was the OECD PISA and Forum for World Education Launch of 2018 PISA Results and Conference, which took place in Paris, France, from 3 to 4 December 2019, where Prof Tan was invited to provide insights on high performing education systems. At the same event, Prof Tan also took part in an Expert Panel, themed “What does it take to change education?”, where speakers addressed issues concerning sustained transformation as well as strategies and approaches for the future of education.
