Prof Tan Oon Seng speaks at Ukraine National Ed Camp POINT OF RESILIENCY 2024
The Ukraine National EdCamp POINT OF RESILIENCE 2024 was a major event for Ukraine teachers held at an undisclosed location in Ukraine.
The event took place on June 24–28, 2024 in a hybrid format, with onsite and online live streaming. Ed Camp is a Ukraine NGO that supports some 50,000 Ukraine educators. Even amid the large-scale invasion of Russia and challenging time of atrocities, educators in Ukraine rallied together to continue to provide education for their children and youth. They wanted to give hope and create a better future for their next generation. The conference was graced by the presence of the First Lady of Ukraine Olena Zelenska on June 25.
Professor Tan Oon Seng, Director of Singapore Centre for Character and Citizenship Education, was invited by Oleksandr Elkin, member of the Presidential Advisory Council on Developing the General Secondary Education System of Ukraine to be the first international speaker at this special national event to encourage Ukraine teachers in their challenging times. On 25 June 2024 Professor Tan gave his address online followed by Professor Pasi Sahlberg from Finland, and Professor Thomas Funke (co-founder of Tomorrow University) from Germany.
Prof Tan Oon Seng spoke on the importance of the role of teachers in such a time of nation building and saluted the teachers for their bravery, passion and calling. Prof Tan also shared on re-envisioning education with the aim of building character and citizenship. He shared on challenges and trends facing education and the next generation and highlighted the impact of teachers on every child.
