The Centre for Research in Child Development (CRCD) hosts two different webinars

On 8 July 2024, the Centre for Research in Child Development (CRCD) hosted a webinar where Dr Patricia Chen, Assistant Professor at the University of Texas, Austin, shared on her work titled “A Strategic Mindset Supports Effective Strategy Use and Goal Achievement”. Dr Chen shared more on a strategic mindset - how it appears to be a psychological stance that is internally-driven, malleable, and potentially generalisable across different kinds of tasks and goals, as well as how intervening on this mindset could be an important complement to strategy training, and other ways to improve learning and raise achievement.

CRCD also hosted another webinar titled “Large Language Models in Education: Augmenting Psychological Well-Being and Motivation”, where Dr Desmond Ong, Assistant Professor at the University of Texas, Austin, shared more on his research. During the webinar, Dr Ong spoke about the use of Large Language Models (LLMs) and how it could potentially be helpful for students as well as teachers’ well-being by offering emotional support and empathy, as well as using LLMs to promote motivational mindsets such as growth mindsets.
