About Us

Launched on 1 Nov 2023, the NTI-NTU Corporate Laboratory is a collaboration between Nanofilm Technologies International Limited (“Nanofilm”, “NTI”), Nanyang Technological University (“NTU”) and supported by Singapore under RIE2025. The Lab’s objective is to propel Innovation and Technologies commercialisation through NTU’s innovation and NTI’s deep technology. NTI-NTU Corp Lab aligns with Singapore’s RIE2025 handbook – which emphasises the nation’s commitment to research and innovation, aiming to drive economic growth and address national challenges. 

Nanofilm was founded in 1999 as a spin-off company from NTU, by Prof Shi Xu who was an Associate Professor in university then. Over the years, Nanofilm has grown to become one of Asia’s leading company on advanced surface solutions and thin-film coating technologies.    

Establishment of the Corp Lab will strengthen the bond between academia and industry. This partnership can lead to the rapid translation of research findings into market-ready solutions, driving innovation and economic growth. Combining Nanofilm’s industrial expertise and NTU’s innovative research, the Corp Lab serves as a regional technological and innovation hub for advanced coating technologies and capabilities development. The Corp Lab’s target is to develop technological breakthroughs on advanced coatings and nanofabrication technologies, by fostering interdisciplinary interactions among local universities, institutes and industry.  

The Corp Lab will work on 10 industry-focused projects over 5 years from 2023 to 2028, with research focused on 4 major programs:  

  • Coating Equipment 

  • Advanced Materials

  • Nanofabrication

  • Hydrogen Energy
