Introduction

This course aims to provide fundamental principles and concepts in potential flow and high velocity flows where the compressibility effects of gas have to be considered and therefore its density will not remain constant as the velocity changes.

*This course is credit-bearing and stackable to Specialist Certificate in Mechanical Engineering Essentials for Aerospace Engineers.

Course Availability

  • Date(s): 12 Aug 2024 to 06 Dec 2024

    Time: Lecture (every Thursday): 1900 - 2150

    Venue: NTU Main Campus

    Registration is closed.

This course aims to provide fundamental principles and concepts in potential flow and high velocity flows where the compressibility effects of gas have to be considered and therefore its density will not remain constant as the velocity changes. The course will also impart to you, the student, theories on laminar and turbulent boundary layer flows over flat plates, external flows around immersed bodies and the drags on flat plates and bluff bodies. Other objectives are to provide principles and theories relating to unsteady flows in pipes and flows in turbomachines such as pumps and turbines.
  • General Equations of Motion
  • Potential Flow
  • Isentropic Compressible Flow
  • Non-isentropic Compressible Flow
  • Boundary Layer Flow
  • External Flow
  • Turbomachines
  • Unsteady Flow
Working Professionals who wish to switch career to Mechanical Engineering and register with PEB

This module is part of 4 courses leading to the "Specialist Certificate in Mechanical Engineering Essentials for Aerospace Engineers".

This Specialist Certificate will enable NTU’s Aerospace Engineering graduates to apply for registration as Professional Engineers, if other requirements (4 years of relevant practical experience in engineering, FEE & PPEE examinations, interview) are also fulfilled. Further details on Professional Engineer registration from PEB can be found at https://www.peb.gov.sg/Downloads/RegistrationasPE.pdf
