Introduction
The course explores the theoretical and practical nature of various early childhood curriculum approaches across time and context. The discussion will closely examine the wide array of paradigms with the underlying conceptions about children and education in light of a range of practical implications. In order to be able to prepare to be curriculum developer, theorizer, and advocator, the course enhances participants capacity to utilize multiple critical lens to rethinking and doing of educational complexity, equity, and diversity.

By the end of this course, participants should be better able to:
- Strengthen understanding of the relationships between curriculum and its underlying assumptions on children and education
- Hone pedagogical practices through a reflective and evolving process of deconstructing and reconstructing your beliefs, knowledge and practices using multiple perspectives
- Consider and create other possibilities in order to design and evaluate curriculum
- Explore and critique curriculum drawn from multiple lens to consider the multiple and diverse possible ways to transform it
- Collaborate and strengthen one another s thinking through continual discussion and peer critiques

- Understanding historical influences on curriculum design and development
- Understanding images of the child and their influence on curriculum design and development
- Understanding images of teaching and their influence on curriculum design and development
- Understanding development theories and their influence on curriculum design and development
- Understanding assessment in curriculum design and development
- Understanding complexity and its influence on curriculum design and development
- Understanding globalization and sustainability and their influence on curriculum development
- Developing a reflexive and responsive approach to curriculum design and development
- Exploring various early childhood curriculum models/approaches, e.g., Montessorri, High Scope, Reggio Emilia, etc., and child development theories
A teaching qualification such as the NIE's Postgraduate Diploma in Education and at least one year of teaching experience or
Diploma in Early Childhood Care and Education approved by the Early Childhood Development Agency, Singapore and at least three years of teaching experience in pre-schools.
