Please share with us your professional life’s journey and at which point in your career did you aspire to pursue this FlexiMasters?

I have always been curious and intrigued by my industry peers when they were explaining complex concepts at work using the knowledge and skills that they gained from upskilling in professional development courses. I believed that I could make positive impact in my organisation too if I equip myself with the knowledge in project management. Hence, I decided to pursue FlexiMasters in Project Management offered by PaCE@NTU.

What attracted you to your chosen FlexiMasters at PaCE@NTU?

I have always been an advocate for lifelong learning and searching for suitable upskilling courses to enhance my skillsets to stay competitive in my industry. I chose to upskill in project management because it is a transferable skill that can be applied to many industries. The deal was made sweeter when I discovered NTU is offering FlexiMasters in Project Management. NTU being one of the reputable universities in Singapore gave me the confidence in pursuing my upskilling with them. Furthermore, the FlexiMasters offers flexible learning for working professional with busy schedule like us.

Could you share with us some interesting facets of the FlexiMasters you enrolled?

One of the misconceptions I had about pursuing a postgraduate education was the lack of industry experience in its curriculum. I was expecting a dull learning experience with heavy academic expectations. However, I had fun surprisingly. The lecturers were encouraging and knowledgeable. They shared their work experience during classes which made the learning seamless and relatable for working adults like me. I was also blessed with great course mates who were supportive. I got to know some who are successful and was impressed by how they continue to stay humble and grounded.

How did you apply what you've learnt from this FlexiMasters?

Another interesting facet of this course was the assignments were given based on our experience instead of standardised assignments. This helped us to improve our self-awareness in our past approaches and forced us to change and adapt for better efficiency. I also realised that my industry is lacking proper documentations when this was highly emphasised during my study. This FlexiMasters trained me to have a big-picture perspective which I find it an underrated but important skillset to have.

Do you think lifelong learning is important? Please share your thoughts about it.

I believe that education plays an important role in creating positive impact on our environment and society. As we age, our perspective differs and our mind demands more especially when the world of work is increasingly competitive and dynamic. The only constant in life is change. To stay adaptable to change, we should never stop learning, and one can never be too old to learn.
