Please share with us your professional life’s journey and at which point in your career did you aspire to pursue this programme?
I always wanted to work in the industry that I am interested in. I have been upgrading myself since 2016, but I only discovered my passion during the COVID-19 period when I fell in love with AI and software engineering. I took courses from various institutes and eventually enrolled in SCTP in Software Engineering offered by PaCE@NTU. This programme allowed me to make a successful career switch, and I landed an Engineer role at ST Engineering immediately after completing the programme in Aug 2023.
Has this programme benefitted you in your career switch or career development?
Yes, definitely. This programme greatly benefitted my career switch. The concepts I learned were mostly applicable in financial institutions, particularly Java, React, and Docker. I even applied React in my previous role as an Admin Clerk at NEK Technology Pte Ltd. During my interview for the new role that I landed, I was able to complete the take-home assignment and present it the following week.
How was your learning experience with this programme?
The experience was great, although I initially struggled to keep up with the trainer's coding speed. There were quizzes and assignments for each face-to-face lesson, which were highly beneficial. This programme was quite comprehensive, covering a wide range of technologies, including project management, React, Java, DevOps, and mobile development.
Could you share with us some interesting facets of the programme you enrolled?
The programme covered a wide range of technologies, from project management to React, Java, DevOps, and mobile development. Overall, I wanted to gain a deeper understanding of software engineering. My decision to enroll in this programme was influenced by NTU, the programme provider, which has a well-established and respected reputation. The trainers were very knowledgeable and helpful.
Which aspect of this programme did you like the most?
My favourite part of this programme was Java & DevOps. I suppose I am not a visual person, so backend concepts came naturally to me. I had also learned about data analytics and AI prior to this programme. Additionally, I am a strong believer in automation, so DevOps met the requirements that made me passionate about it.
