SCRIPTS Research Scholarships

In April 2021, SCRIPTS received funding from NRF to support the Research Scholarships in Privacy-Preserving Technologies (PP-Tech). We aim to develop talents in advanced fundamental privacy research and produce practical state-of-the-art privacy technologies. Through this program, candidates will be trained in PP-tech skills through translational opportunities and various industrial projects.

Selection Criteria
- Key research focus in Privacy-Preserving Technologies
- Proposed supervisor must be a Lead PI (Director), Co-Lead-PI (Deputy Director) or Co-PI of SCRIPTS. Interested applicants can contact them directly.
- Candidates must be accepted by SCSE, SPMS or IGP. Please refer to the eligibility details in the "Admission Eligibility" section below.
With reference to other similar scholarship schemes such as AI Singapore, the scholarships will support both Master and PhD students from SCSE, SPMS and IGP in research areas in Privacy-Preserving Technologies and Privacy-Preserving Machine Learning.
Applicants must satisfy the admission requirements and be accepted by one of the following:
Research areas under the PhD and Masters Programmes fall broadly into the theories and applications of the five categories:
- Differential Privacy
- Secure Multi-Party Computation
- Searchable Encryption
- Homomorphic Encryption
- Federated Learning
Successful candidates will be hosted and administered under either the School of Computer Sciences and Engineering (SCSE), or the School of Physical and Mathematical Sciences (SPMS), or the Interdisciplinary Graduate Programme (IGP) of NTU, and supervised by a PI or Co-PI of SCRIPTS@NTU.
Please note that the choice of PhD or Masters supervisor(s), project and publication of successful candidates is subject to approval by SCRIPTS.
The award is tenable for one (1) year in the first instance and is renewable annually subject to good progress. The maximum period of the Scholarship is two (2) years for Master's candidates and four (4) years for PhD candidates, as determined by SCSE/SPMS/IGP as well as availability of research funding.

1 Central Provident Fund (CPF) contributions shall be provided at a rate pegged to the prevailing employer's contribution rate set by CPF, on top of the monthly stipend received.
2 International Students must take up 3-Year Service Obligation and perform teaching/ laboratory supervision duties to fulfil the requirements of the Graduate Training Hours (GTH). Singaporeans and Singapore Permanent Residents may perform GTH at the discretion of the schools.
- No increase in stipend for scholars who pass the Ph.D. Qualifying Examination/Confirmation.
- In addition to the monthly stipend, the award also covers the annual tuition fee.
Singaporeans and Singapore PR (at the point of award): No service commitment.
International Students (at the point of award): subjected to the Service Obligation (SO) upon graduation, contractually obligated for 3-year service in Singapore-based companies without commitment to any specific organization. The area of work should preferably be related to Privacy Preserving Technologies.
Admission is in August or January each year.
Interested applicants are required to submit online application through NTU online portal - Graduate Research Admission System (GRAS). Applicants are advised to submit applications at least 4 months before their desired intake.
