Celebrating Excellence: SoH Alumni Awards 2024

Honoring remarkable achievements at the prestigious ceremony held at the Asian Civilisations Museum.

On 14 September 2024, the Asian Civilisations Museum hosted the SoH Alumni Awards 2024, celebrating the exceptional contributions of our distinguished alumni. This annual event acknowledges remarkable accomplishments across four categories: the SoH Patron of Heritage and the Arts Award, the SoH Alumni Achievement Award, the SoH Ambassador Award, and the SoH Alumni Service Award. Faculty members and peers nominate the awardees, recognizing their impactful work and dedication.

The awards were presented by Professor Boh Wai Fong, NTU Vice President (Lifelong Learning & Alumni Engagement) and Professor KK Luke, Acting Chair for the School of Humanities.

This year’s winners include:

SoH Patron of Heritage and the Arts Award: Daryl Qilin Yam

Daryl is an internationally acclaimed author and co-founder of the literary charity Sing Lit Station. His literary works, including the acclaimed novella Shantih Shantih Shantih, have earned him recognition such as the 2022 Singapore Literature Prize Readers’ Favourite English Book, while his novels Lovelier, Lonelier and Kappa Quartet have also made him an award nominee at home and abroad. 

SoH Alumni Achievement Award: Neo Hai Bin

Hai Bin's creative journey encompasses playwriting, dramaturgy, and literary prowess, marked by acclaimed works such as "Tanah•Air 水•土: A Play In Two Parts (Devised with Drama Box, 2019)" and "Being:息在 (M1 Fringe Festival 2022)". As a co-founder of 微wei.collective, Hai Bin expands the boundaries of theatre through innovative storytelling. 

SoH Outstanding Young Alumni Award: Lin Yi Jun

Yi Jun has made a transformative impact in journalism and demonstrated dedication to community service. Her commitment to excellence is underscored by accolades like winning 1st Prize in Chinese Poetry at the 2021 Golden Point Award Singapore and placing 3rd in the same category at the 2023 Golden Point Award Singapore.

SoH Outstanding Young Alumni Award: Jernelle Oh Yu Shi

Jernelle shines as a remarkable talent in acting, captivating audiences with her versatility and genuine passion. Her achievements, which include winning Best Actress at the Asian Academy Creative Awards and the Top 3 Most Popular Rising Stars award at Mediacorp’s Star Awards 2024, reflect her dedication and skill.

SoH Alumni Service Award: Marcus Teo Tian Leng
Marcus is a PhD candidate at the Centre for Biomedical Ethics (CBmE), Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. During his tenure at Tan Tock Seng Hospital, he initiated a collaboration between the National Health Group Healthcare Management Associate Programme and NTU Career & Attachment Office to support SoH students with opportunities in healthcare.
