Humanities Students Embrace Entrepreneurial Spirit at Workshop Held on 27 September
The event was held at the new Innovation Port @ the Arc.
On the evening of 27 September, SoH’s students, together with students from other schools, gathered for an inspiring Humanities Entrepreneurship Workshop at the Innovation Port @ the Arc to learn about starting their business and social ventures. Spearheaded by Dr Jean Lee, Asst. Chair (Communications and Community Engagement) of SoH, the event engaged our community of local entrepreneurs, as well as NTU students and alumni for a lively exchange of ideas and experiences. The event was jointly organized by SoH, NTU Innovation and Entrepreneurship and the Student Affairs Office, and supported by Colab4Good, a social initiative powered by Kwek Leng Joo.
The highlight of the evening was a panel discussion moderated by Dr Jean Lee, featuring four accomplished entrepreneurs, Mr Ting Wei Lin, Mr Paul Koh, Mr Foong Yankai and Mr Chua Tian Hao, who founded companies in industries that include food and beverage, capitalisation and financial solutions, PR Consultancy and education. The entrepreneurs shared their stories and experiences in starting their business ventures and provided useful tips and techniques for the audience to develop their own.
Following the panel, a hands-on workshop was conducted by serial entrepreneurs Mr Chua and Mr Ting. They guided participants through practical exercises designed to hone essential entrepreneurial skills such as problem-solving, business model creation, and pitching ideas effectively.
Ms Yeow York Yen, Asst. Director of I&E provided participants with useful information and guidance on the NTU Entrepreneurship & Startup Training (NEST) Programme that aims to provide aspiring entrepreneurs with the necessary tools, knowledge and skills to effectively develop new ideas or transform existing solutions into successful businesses.
Over a networking session hosted by SAO’s Ms Fatin, students had the opportunity to interact closely with the panellists and workshop leaders to share their business ideas and plans.
This workshop marks another important step in SoH’s commitment to interdisciplinary learning by broadening the horizons of its students, showing that the entrepreneurial spirit is alive and well within the Humanities discipline.
