New Book Release: The Routledge Handbook of English-Medium Instruction in Higher Education
We are thrilled to share the publication of “The Routledge Handbook of English-Medium Instruction in Higher Education” co-edited by Prof Kingsley Bolton, Assoc Prof Werner Botha, and Dr Benedict Lin. Dr Lin is a Senior Lecturer at the Language and Communication Centre.
The Handbook discusses the theoretical and disciplinary background to the study of English-medium instruction (EMI) in higher education worldwide. It highlights issues relating to EMI pedagogy, varying motivations for EMI education, and the delivery of EMI in diverse contexts across the world. The volume was largely researched at NTU, and a number of the Asian studies in the book were funded by grants from the Singapore Ministry of Education.
Other NTU contributors include Dr Glenn Toh from the Language and Communication Centre, as well as former colleagues Dr Hyejeong Ahn and Dr Christopher Hill.
With 38 chapters covering policies and practices in English-medium instruction (EMI) across Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Asia, this handbook offers invaluable insights into the theoretical and disciplinary foundations of EMI. It delves into the diverse contexts of higher education delivery, providing a thorough examination of EMI practices worldwide. This Handbook serves as a valuable edition for university libraries across the world and an essential read for many faculty, undergraduate and postgraduate students, educators, and policymakers.
We extend our heartfelt congratulations to the co-editors and all the contributors involved in this achievement!
