Environmental Humanities

IDC-EH-Banner

Environmental Humanities emerges as a fast expanding interdisciplinary area of research and study in recent decades, intersecting among academic disciplines ranging from environmental history, environmental ethics and aesthetics, ecocriticism, critical animal studies, eco-linguistics, environmental psychology, environmental sociology, urban planning, environmental communications studies, and other sub-disciplines.

The SOH Environmental Humanities Research Cluster brings together these sub-disciplines and to establish an important research hub that promotes pluralistic and humanistic environmental thinking and practices in both Asia and the world.

Since 2015, the Cluster has organised a diverse range of events include academic symposiums, seminars, book talks, sustainability salons and film screenings. Invited speakers leading scholars, writers, environmental activists such as Amitav Ghosh, Basia Irland, Robert Newman, J.R. McNeill, Dolly Jørgensen, Victor Seow, Lyle Fearnley, Sean Cubitt, Stephen Rust, Salma Monani, and many more.  (For more, see “Events”)

The cluster welcomes global research collaborations with academics from all disciplines, and non-academics such as media and creative workers, art and cultural organisations and festivals, and other potential collaborations with the educational and industrial sectors. Please contact the cluster co-coordinators Kiu-wai Chu (kiuwai.chu@ntu.edu.sg) and Florence Mok (Florence.mok@ntu.edu.sg) if you would like to receive updates on cluster events or explore possibilities for collaborations.
