Congrats to Gabriel Chung for receiving the Ling Yu Chich-Chen Siew Chee Award!
Chung Ming Hean Gabriel, an undergraduate from the School of Physical and Mathematical Sciences (SPMS) in Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, has won the Ling Yu Chich-Chen Siew Chee Award.
The Ling Yu Chich-Chen Siew Chee Award was established in 2023 by Professor Ling San, Acting President and Provost of NTU Singapore, in honour of his parents, Mr Ling Yu Chich and Madam Chen Siew Chee. It aims to provide opportunities for overseas learning to talented and deserving undergraduate students who are currently pursuing a degree in Mathematical Sciences at SPMS.
Gabriel Chung, the recipient of the award for 2024, had attended lessons at the University of Southampton for six months, beginning in February 2024.
"I am grateful for the wonderful honor and privilege of receiving this award, which has largely alleviated the financial pressure of travelling abroad to the UK," Gabriel told the SPMS Communications Team. "This was my first time leaving Asia and travelling to Europe. I was able to immerse myself in a different culture, and make new friendships, including with other overseas exchange students from different parts of the world. My flatmates at Wessex Lane Hall were particularly welcoming, and at the university I learnt from excellent professors including Dr David Turton and Professor Kostas Skenderis for MATH2038 Partial Differential Equations, and Dr Vesna Perisic for MATH3081 Operational Research."
SPMS extends our warmest congratulations to Gabriel for receiving the award.
