China’s top diplomat Wang Yi could be the best bet to lay a foundation for a potential meeting between the US and Chinese presidents when he visits Washington, observers said. The invitation was extended during a meeting on Monday between senior US and Chinese diplomats in Washington.
Assistant Professor Dylan Loh, from SSS@NTU’s Public Policy and Global Affairs Programme, said it was likely that Wang could pave the way for a Xi-Biden summit when in Washington, noting that he was “certainly senior enough” in the political hierarchy to be coordinating such a meeting.
