China and US can only break deadlock if both are hit badly by tariffs
The US-China tariff war has escalated rapidly. NTU PPGA’s Asst Prof Dylan Loh said that there is not enough time for negotiations before US' additional tariffs on China and China's countermeasures against the US take effect. Unless there is a dramatic turn, both countries are likely to proceed with imposing high tariffs. However, he believes that trade between the two countries will continue. He added that China and US are still assessing each other’s baseline, and the ultimate goal is to reach an agreement through negotiations, but that this could only happen after both countries have been hit badly by the tariffs.
