China, Vietnam to seek to boost trade, strengthen railway cooperation projects

The new General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam and President To Lam will pay an official visit to China for three days this weekend, marking his first trip abroad since becoming Vietnam's top leader earlier this month. Dylan Loh, assistant professor of public policy and global affairs at NTU in Singapore, told Lianhe Zaobao that after a wave of leadership turmoil and a high-profile corruption scandal, Vietnam now needs to focus on boosting the domestic economy and consolidating public support. To fight back against criticism by achieving economic performance, Hanoi needs Beijing to do this.
