New Insightful Read: Fostering Honesty in Children

How can we expect kids to be honest if we lie to them? Children learn honesty from their parents. As Assoc Prof Setoh Peipei from our Psychology Programme aptly puts it, “Lying begets lying.”

Honesty is crucial for children’s growth. If a lie is unavoidable, it’s better to discuss it with them when they’re older and can understand rather than letting them uncover it unpleasantly. Parents often underestimate their children’s ability to grasp complex topics and their resilience in facing bad news, such as failure, disappointment, or the death of a pet.
