Heng Swee Keat: Economic development and industry transformation should benefit all parties

As Singapore undergoes economic development and industrial transformation, the government must ensure that citizens have access to sufficient resources and support so that all parties can benefit from development, rather than simply promoting development for the sake of development, said Deputy Prime Minister Heng Swee Keat at the 10th Singapore Economic Review Conference (SERC) on Wednesday. The biennial conference, organised by the Singapore Economic Review journal, brings together economists, industry players and policymakers from around the world to discuss top economic issues. In his welcome speech, SER editor and NTU's Albert Winsemius chair professor of economics Euston Quah said economics is a discipline that goes beyond traditional confines, and he has broadened SER’s purview to other non-traditional areas of economics. This year’s conference includes a special session on Crypto and AI.
