NTU School of Social Sciences Supports Scholarship Initiative for Palestinian Students
The NTU School of Social Sciences is proud to announce its support for a community-led initiative to provide educational opportunities to young Palestinians. As of 11 March 2025, this initiative has raised over S$200,000 - half of its target to fund scholarships for Palestinian students seeking higher education in Singapore.
The initiative has received over 150 expressions of interest from young Palestinians, with more than 50% of applicants hailing from Gaza. These aspiring students have applied to prominent Singaporean institutions, including the National University of Singapore (NUS), Singapore Management University (SMU), Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS), Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT), and Singapore Institute of Management (SIM). They aim to pursue courses in diverse fields such as pharmaceutical science, business management, artificial intelligence, software engineering, and computer science.
In a show of support, Prime Minister Lawrence Wong attended a recent event alongside PSI Co-Chair Professor Yaacob Ibrahim, Dr. Gul Inanc of Opening Universities for Refugees, and representatives from organizations like Ray of Hope and the Arab Network of Singapore. The NTU School of Social Sciences is particularly honoured that Associate Professor Walid Jumblatt Abdullah, our Assistant Chair of Students, is actively contributing to this meaningful initiative.
This collaborative effort highlights the power of collective action in fostering educational inclusivity and global engagement.
