KickStart Day - Social Science Challenge 2024
113 participants, 23 teams, and students from 6 junior colleges, polytechnics, and IB schools came together this Saturday, May 25th, 2024, for the NTU Social Science Challenge 2024, proudly hosted by the SSS Club!
The journey kicked off with a warm welcome and a Meet-the-Mentor session led by SSS Volunteer Mentors, followed by two enlightening masterclasses: "๐๐ข๐ญ๐ฎ๐๐ญ๐ข๐ง๐ ๐๐ข๐ ๐ซ๐๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง ๐ข๐ง ๐๐ข๐ง๐ ๐๐ฉ๐จ๐ซ๐" by Prof. Junjia and "๐๐ง๐ญ๐ซ๐จ๐๐ฎ๐๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง ๐ญ๐จ ๐๐ฎ๐๐ฅ๐ข๐ ๐๐จ๐ฅ๐ข๐๐ฒ" by Dr. Kwa Kai Xiang.
Over the next 2 months, participating students will explore the significance of policy analysis in Singapore, focusing on policies affecting various vulnerable social groups, groups who are integral to the fabric of our community, including low-income households, foreign workers, single-parent families, and youths-at-risk.
Social issues are complex and multifaceted, requiring an interdisciplinary approach to develop effective solutions. Through this competition, students will also learn the importance of integrating perspectives from economics, psychology, public policy, global affairs, and sociology to address community needs and create impactful policies.
We eagerly anticipate the insightful recommendations and innovative solutions these brilliant minds will produce!
