The debatable matter of transporting migrant workers in unsafe conditions on the back of lorries, a subject that has been under deliberation for over a decade, has once again captured renewed focus.
Assoc Prof Laavanya Kathiravelu, SSS@NTU's Sociologist, highlighted the recent spotlight on this matter. She emphasized that despite varying opinions, there exists a definite public consensus to safeguard the lives of migrant workers. She proposed bypassing the need to wait for a specific signal of willingness to shoulder expenses. Instead, to take proactive measures in line with the greater public interest, drawing insights from past actions.
