US recognises that a multipolar world is beneficial to China's geopolitical development

Assoc Prof Li Mingjiang from NTU’s RSIS said at the "Decoding China’s Two Sessions" forum that a second Trump presidency would pose short-term challenges but bring long-term geopolitical opportunities for China. He noted that the U.S.-China trade war has pressured China’s job market and economic stability, while technological competition is expected to intensify. However, Trump’s reduced global engagement could accelerate multipolarity, benefiting China’s diplomacy with Europe, Japan, and Southeast Asia. NTU Emeritus Professor of Economics Tan Kong Yam highlighted Trump’s potential withdrawal from the Paris Agreement as a strategic opportunity for China in green technology. The forum, co-organised by Lianhe Zaobao and Business China, featured discussions with industry leaders on China’s response to Trump’s potential return.
