SSS PhD Students Shine at 3MT Heats

PhD students from the School of Social Sciences took on the challenge of the Three Minute Thesis (3MT) during the School Heats held on 15 April 2025, showcasing their ability to present complex research in a concise and engaging format.

Originally developed by The University of Queensland, the 3MT competition challenges doctoral candidates to present their thesis topic in just three minutes, using one slide, and in language accessible to a non-specialist audience. This international competition hones students’ academic, presentation, and research communication skills. At NTU, participation in 3MT is also a graduation requirement for PhD students prior to thesis submission.

After a series of workshops and training sessions to prepare, participants delivered high-impact presentations judged by faculty and peers. We are pleased to announce the winners of the School of Social Sciences 3MT Heats:

  • Winner: Lee Ming Hao Ivan (Year 3 PhD Student, Psychology)
  • 1st Runner-Up: Teo Jia Li (Year 3 PhD Student, Psychology)
  • 2nd Runner-Up: Jarrett Tan Jie (Year 3 PhD Student, Economics)

The Winner will represent the School at the NTU 3MT Finals in July 2025, competing against winners from other Schools and Colleges across the university. Cash prizes will also be awarded to the top three presenters.

Congratulations to all our participants for their outstanding efforts and to the finalists for their compelling presentations!

Stay tuned for updates from the NTU Finals as we cheer on Ming Hao in the next round.
