Sullivan warns of sanctions against Chinese companies aiding Russia, hints that banks will be among the next wave of targets

Senior U.S. government officials stepped up pressure on China over Ukraine this week, with National Security Advisor Sullivan warning that the Biden administration is preparing to impose new sanctions on Chinese entities that support Russia's invasion of Ukraine and hinting that banks could be targeted. Public policy and global affairs Asst Prof Dylan Loh at NTU said in an interview with Lianhe Zaobao that the Biden administration continues to be highly dissatisfied with China on the Ukraine issue, believing that Beijing has not done enough to curb the flow of dual-use military and civilian components and technology to Russia, which has led to Moscow's progress and advantage on the Ukrainian battlefield in the past two months.
