Health Coaching for Older Adults
Course Objectives – Basic Level
Health coaching is a health intervention through which a health coach engages with a client by listening and observing so as to provide personalized solutions for facilitating positive health behaviour change.
This course aims to provide foundational knowledge and skills required to perform health coaching for older adults living in community settings. Participants will also learn key concepts, ranging from gerontology, nutrition, and physical exercise, that can be used to facilitate effective health coaching. The course also offers participants with an overview of job opportunities related to the growing popularity of health coaching in Singapore.
Course Content
At the end of this 2-day short course, participants will be able to:
1. Explain what health coaching is and its differences with other healthcare professions;
2. Provide examples on how health coaching can be used to improve health outcomes among community dwelling older adults;
3. Gain basic understanding of different techniques used in health coaching;
4. Use basic knowledge of gerontology, nutrition, and physical exercise to facilitate effective health coaching; and
5. Identify health coaching job opportunities in Singapore.
