Synopsis
This course is a BDE for any undergraduate student with an interest in the Malay language and culture, but with no previous knowledge of the language. The course presents an introduction to Malay language through learning of basic grammar and essential vocabulary to enable students to understand and communicate in simple Malay. Using a learner-centric teaching approach and a broad range of classroom and online activities, you will learn the basics of Malay through the four fundamental language skills; reading, writing, listening, and speaking. LM5001 will teach you basic Malay to the level of A1.1 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

  • Deploy an active vocabulary related to the theme of greetings, family, daily routines and parts of the body in Malay.

Synopsis
This course is a BDE for any undergraduate student with an interest in the Malay language and culture. The course, which is a progression from Malay Language Level 1, aims primarily to provide students with an enhanced knowledge of Malay (spoken and written) at the post-basic level in order to attain a functional competency in the language for formal and practical communication. This post-basic level course also seeks to enable students to acquire a better grasp of Malay grammar and widen their repository of Malay vocabulary. LM5002 is equivalent to the level of A1 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

Synopsis
The course aims to provide students who have taken Malay Language level two or those with post-basic knowledge of the language, enhanced competency through wider exposure in using the language. These will be achieved by introducing students to enhanced grammar rules, wider vocabulary and more oral activities. The course would provide a natural progression for students who wish to take their learning of the language to a higher level, especially for those who might need the language skills in the pursuits of their career. Through a broad range of classroom and online activities, students would have ample opportunities to use the language in an authentic way and immerse themselves in Malay culture. LM5003 is equivalent to the level of A2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

Synopsis
This course is a BDE for any undergraduate student who already possess a level of proficiency in the language equivalent to LM5003. Through task-based learning and flipped classroom approaches, LM5004 will teach you the standards of Malay language to the level of B1.1 (CEFR). Through a facilitation and learner-centric teaching approach, you will further develop your Malay language ability at a lower- intermediate level. You will train the four fundamental language skills: reading, writing, listening, and speaking. This course will enhance your understanding of the Malay language and culture through a variety of classroom discussions and presentations.

  • Read and interpret accurately a variety of texts on familiar topics that use a lower intermediate level of grammatical structures and vocabulary. 
  • Listen to and identify information provided in authentic audio and multi-media files.
  • Write simple connected texts such as short essays, blogs and emails discussing familiar topics.
  • Communicate at a lower intermediate level that allows you to discuss a variety of topics confidently, being able to express wishes, offer advice, propose and suggest solutions to various situations, etc.
  • Produce a presentation on a topic related to Malay culture and traditions.

This course is a BDE for any undergraduate student who already possess a level of proficiency in the language equivalent to LM5004. LM5005 will teach you the Malay language to the level of B1 for the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). Through a facilitation and learner-centric teaching approach you will further develop your Malay language ability at an intermediate level. You will train the four fundamental language skills: reading, writing, listening, and speaking. This course will enhance your understanding of the Malay language and culture through a variety of classroom discussions, peer-teaching, and presentations. This course will enable you to communicate independently and confidently with speakers of Malay language on a variety of topics.

  • Identify and interpret information accurately from a variety of authentic Malay texts on present-day topics that use intermediate level of grammatical structures and vocabulary.
  • Write more complex connected text such as essays and emails, discussing and expressing your opinions on contemporary and familiar topics.
  • Discuss and debate present-day topics, such as film, economy, politics, health, law and travel.
  • Communicate at an intermediate level when performing various real-life tasks.
  • Produce a presentation on a Malay cultural topic with appropriate commentary and reflection.

The course presents an introduction to Malay language through learning of basic grammar and essential vocabulary related to medical and healthcare industry to enable students to understand and communicate in simple Malay. Using a learner-centric teaching approach and a broad range of classroom and online activities, you will learn the basics of Malay through the four fundamental language skills; reading, writing, listening, and speaking. LM5001 will teach you basic Malay to the level of A1.1 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
