About Master of Science in Artificial Intelligence (MSAI) programme:
Launched in Jan 2020, NTU’s Master of Science in Artificial Intelligence (MSAI) is the first AI master programme in Singapore.
The courses in the programme such as Machine Learning, Deep Learning and Applications, Computer Vision, Neuro Evolution and Fuzzy Intelligence, Multi-Agent Systems and Uban Computing are taught by carefully selected lecturers who are highly recognised in their respective fields. Many of the faculty are listed in the Stanford University's World’s Top 2% Scientists’ study and have received several national and international awards. One of the features of the programme is the AI Ethics course which emphasises the importance of ethical use of AI.
MSAI programme has received an overwhelming demand since its launch with the applications number reaching almost 2000 for the latest Aug 2024 intake, for which 138 new students were enrolled, 130% more than original target of 60 students.
MSAI has a diverse international student profile, with mostly Singaporean students and many from countries such as China, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, Philippines, South Korea, Netherlands, France, Germany, and Rwanda. Some of these students have scholarships from their companies or countries while some have secured scholarships from leading organisations like Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) and OCBC. The college also has an agreement to train officers from the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF).
The MSAI is an intensive one-year full-time (or 2-year part-time) programme by coursework. Students will be awarded the degree of ‘Master of Science in Artificial Intelligence’ after completion of study. The period of candidature is minimum 12 months and maximum 30 months for full-time candidates; and 24 and 48 months respectively for part-time candidates.
The programme consists of a total of 30 Academic Units (AUs), with 12 AUs stemming from core courses and 18 AUs from master project and elective courses, covering general AI techniques and techniques especially for image, video, IOT and time series data. Each course is 3 AUs and has 39 contact hours consisting of lectures, tutorials, example classes and labs over 13 weeks. The master project of AI is a one-year project with 6 AUs. There will be three new generative AI electives offered in the upcoming intakes.
The admission requirements are a good honours degree in computer science, computer engineering or a related discipline with solid mathematical training or a good bachelor's degree in computing discipline and 2 years relevant industry experience.
