Current and completed projects:
Project Title:
Exploring rainfall variability in Southeast Asia and its linkage with global climate indices based on assimilated long-term gridded rainfall dataset
Funding Agency: MOE AcRF Tier 1
Brief Description:
The project aims to carry out data assimilation for constructing a long-term high-resolution gridded rainfall dataset in Southeast Asia (SEA) utilizing different sources of gridded rainfalls and explore rainfall variabilities and its linkages to global climate indices. The spatiotemporal seasonality and extreme rainfall variabilities and implications associated with global geophysical circulation patterns will be extensively investigated over SEA regions.
Project Title:
Evolutionary Auto-Calibration Approach for Integrated Urban Water Quantity and Quality Modelling
Funding Agency: MOE AcRF Tier 1
Brief Description:
This study aims to explore a multi-objective calibration method (i.e. ENSGA-II) for Integrated Urban Water Quantity and Quality Model (IUWQQM) for achieving balanced and efficient model calibration considering complex interaction of different modelling processes.
Project Title:
Probabilistic Flood Modelling
Funding Agency: Industrial Funding/DHI Water & Environment (S) Pte Ltd
Brief Description:
The project aims to support the insurance industry and governments to refine their risk and risk insurance strategy regarding flood risks in South-East Asia through the development of a flood hazard modelling framework specifically designed for large scale and data scarce river basins. The flood model will be based on probabilistic analysis of weather scenarios and failure of flood defense structures.
Project Title:
Microbiological, Chemical and Physical Interactions in Rock Cavern Water Storage - Sub-Project: Water Quality Modeling in An Underground Cavern
Funding Agency: NRF-MND L2NIC
Brief Description:
This project aims to explore the feasibility of using an underground cavern as a reservoir to augment the overall yield of fresh water supply in the country. Mathematical models were developed by integrating the related ecological and hydrodynamic processes to simulate and predict water quality in an underground cavern environment, and to evaluate various pre- and/or post-treatment requirements.
Project Title:
Reducing Urban Heat within JTC Estates by Installing Subsurface Water Cooling Systems
Funding Agency: JTC
Brief Description:
This project aims to evaluate the feasibility of applying subsurface water cooling systems in JTC industrial buildings, analyze the mechanism of heat reduction in JTC estates by adopting subsurface water cooling systems.
Project Title:
An Integrated Model Cascade with Uncertainty Estimation for Flood Inundation Modeling
Funding Agency: MOE AcRF Tier 1
Brief Description:
This project aims to develop a preliminary structure for a novel flood risk assessment (FRA) methodology which, seeks to combine the benefits of the latest modelling techniques to produce an efficient, integrated approach to current FRA requirements. The methodology attempts to replicate the connected system through a cascade of coupled models.
Project Title:
Combined Statistical Downscaling and Disaggregation of Regional Climate Data Considering Temporal and Spatial Variability
Funding Agency: Earth Observatory of Singapore (EOS)
Brief Description:
This project aims to develop a combined downscaling and disaggregation methodology for building linkages between regional climate model (RCM) outputs and high-resolution local weather data, and examining the related uncertainties and complexities. EOS project was evaluated annually by international reviewers and a new WBS account was created each year after approval of the project progress and proposal.
