SEP Team yaR awarded Singapore National Runner-Up at the James Dyson Award for their Innovation, yaR
Shrivardhan Goenka and Yajat Gulati, NTU students, were part of a team awarded Singapore National Runner-Up at the James Dyson Award for their innovation, yaR. This AI-powered wearable device assists visually impaired individuals by recognizing objects, reading text, and describing scenes through audio feedback.
Developed through NUS-NTU collaborations, yaR's creation was supported by Student Entrepreneurship Program at CCDS Innovation Lab. The team received guidance from NTU professors Mohamed M. Sabry Aly, Arvind Easwaran and Bo An.
yaR stands out for its sleek design, ease of use, and comprehensive features. It offers advanced technology in a compact, water-resistant device with long battery life and LTE connectivity at an accessible price.
The team aims to further miniaturize yaR and implement constant object detection. The open-sourced device is currently seeking crowdfunding on Kickstarter.
