Associate Professor Vahid Aryadoust speaks at three different events and conducts a workshop

On 9 October 2024, Associate Professor Vahid Aryadoust from the English Language & Literature Department (ELL), was invited to give a talk titled “How Listeners’ Gaze Behaviour Affects Their Test Scores and Listening Process” at the Institute of Education (IOE) – Faculty of Education and Society, University College London. The talk discussed the limitations of eye tracking and how the integration of sensor technologies like eye tracking can contribute to the emerging concept of neurophysiological validity in listening and language assessment.

On 16 October 2024, he participated in the first Cambridge Generative AI in Education Conference hosted by Glenlead Centre and Digital Education Futures Initiative (DEFI) at the University of Cambridge. Assoc Prof Seyed presented a conference paper titled “Using GenAI to Develop Adaptive Oral Communication Assessment Systems”, under the strand “Educational Innovations and AI”.

He also gave another talk titled “Validity in Second Language Listening Assessment: Insights from Sensor Technologies” at the Faculty of Education, University of Cambridge, UK on 21 October 2024. Assoc Prof Aryadoust shared more on the application of two sensor technologies – eye tracking and functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) – used in his research to examine the neurophysiological processes and behaviours of test-takers.

On 23 October 2024, Assoc Prof Aryadoust was invited to conduct a workshop titled “An Applied Introduction to the General Linear Model and Linear Mixed-effects Model for L2 Research” for graduate students and faculty at the Institute of Education (IOE) – Faculty of Education and Society, University College London.
