Dr Lim Yang Teck Kenneth co-authors two papers and speaks at three different events

Dr Lim Yang Teck Kenneth, Senior Education Research Scientist at the Centre for Research in Pedagogy and Practice (CRPP), co-wrote a paper with his students titled “Modelling and Optimising evolution of self organising task specialisation in ant-inspired AI swarms”, which was also an accepted paper presentation at the 2nd International Conference on Metaverse and AI Companions in Education and Society. The paper explores the remarkable efficiency and adaptability of Pheidole megacephala (Fabricius) ant colonies in task allocation, particularly the evolution of specialised castes such as soldiers with larger heads for nest defence and smaller workers for food collection, and aims to investigate the impact of such size mutations on the colony's overall efficiency and survival, drawing parallels to Pheidole megacephala ants, where bigger heads aid in nest defence.

Dr Lim and his student, Bryan Kuok, were invited by the Geography Education Research Collective of the International Geographical Union – Commission on Geographical Education to share their early thoughts on spatial computing through the lens of geography education. They co-wrote a paper titled “Early thoughts on ‘spatial computing’ through the lens of geography education”, which explores the extent to which the spatiality of ‘spatial computing’ is a gimmick or something that might potentially intrigue geograpy educators and the associated research community.

Dr Lim was also invited to speak at three different events.

  1. Invited Speaker on “Deriving insights from historical data of Singapore with computational text analysis: a case example of the Digital Humanities” at the Interdisciplinary Perspectives: Bridging Sociological Studies in the Digital Age event hosted by the Department of Digital Humanities, King’s College, London on 11 June 2024.
  2. Invited Speaker alongside his team member, Lionel Lim, on “Modelling and Optimising evolution of self organising task specialisation in ant-inspired AI swarms” at the 2nd International Conference on Metaverse and AI Companions in Education and Society hosted by the National Central University in Taiwan on 20 June 2024.
  3. Invited Speaker alongside his students, Samuel Li and Bryan Kuok, on “Exploring the affordances of mixed reality in the design of contexts of learning through embodied cognition” at the Digital Geographies Research Group Annual Symposium 2024 in the University of Birmingham, England on 21 June 2024.
