Dr Lim Yang Teck Kenneth receives a new grant to conduct research in the fields of neuroergonomics and the Science of Learning
Dr Lim Yang Teck Kenneth, Senior Education Research Scientist at the Centre for Research in Pedagogy and Practice (CRPP) at the Office of Education Research (OER), has been awarded a grant under the Education Research Funding Programme (ERFP), supported by the Ministry of Education (MOE). The grant quantum is SGD 199,953.00 (inclusive of overheads) and will be carried out from 2025 to 2027, led by Dr Lim as Principal Investigator and Dr Andrew Pereira Joseph, Education Research Scientist at CRPP as Co-Principal Investigator. Dr Lim's team includes collaborators from the Curriculum Planning and Development Division and the Educational Technology Division of MOE. Titled “Designing for the use of wearables to investigate the role that school microclimate has on student engagement and thermal comfort”, the grant represents the first funding of the work of Dr Lim's team in the fields of neuroergonomics and the Science of Learning. Earlier this year, Mr Lawrence Wong, Singapore’s Prime Minister, shared during his National Day Rally speech that the learning environment and infrastructure of all schools in Singapore would be enhanced over the next ten to fifteen years. This is to ensure conducive environments for students to learn, interact and collaborate with each other; among other ways, Mr Chan Chun Sing, Singapore’s Minister for Education has elaborated that the latter could be achieved through more flexible configuration of classrooms to facilitate different group sizes and modes of learning. Dr Lim's team strongly feels that the award of this grant uniquely positions the team to contribute towards such understandings, as they leverage their existing skillset and experience with neuroergonomics and the Science of Learning.
