Dr Lim Yang Teck Kenneth to participate in the American Educational Research Association (AERA) Annual Meeting in 2025

Dr Lim Yang Teck Kenneth, Senior Education Research Scientist at the Centre for Research in Pedagogy and Practice (CRPP) at the Office of Education Research (OER), will be participating in the American Educational Research Association (AERA) Annual Meeting, which will be held in Denver, USA, from 23rd to 27th April 2025. Dr Lim will be sharing his work in the Special Interest Group on Environmental Education, titled “Approaching Environmental Education with Campus-wide Environmental Sensors in Schools: A Case Study from Singapore”, which investigates the impact of integrating low-cost, open-source environmental sensors into geography education for academically lower-performing students in Singapore Secondary Schools. This study also uses mixed methods from 2020-2024 to examine how technology-enhanced, hands-on learning affects students' critical thinking, inventive reasoning, and self-efficacy, as well as discussing implications for curriculum design and educational policy, emphasizing strategies to promote equity through technology integration. The findings reveal significant improvements in learning approaches, engagement, and self-efficacy.

Dr Lim will also be sharing his other work on Learning and Instruction: Engineering and Computer Science, titled “Enhancing Novice Programming Education with an AI-Augmented Learning Tool”. This study explores the development and implementation of an AI-augmented coding assistance tool designed for novice programmers, as well as the tool’s impact on learning, problem-solving, and motivation in introductory programming courses by using a mixed-methods approach. Findings indicate that the AI tool effectively addressed common programming challenges, reduced cognitive load, and enhanced students' self-efficacy, with the potential for promoting equity in computer science education.
