Dr Sun He gives two paper presentations and delivers three speeches on Early Language Learning and Bilingualism
Dr Sun He, Education Research Scientist at the Centre for Research in Child Development, has given two paper presentations and delivered three speeches on Early Language Learning and Bilingualism.
In June 2022, she gave two paper presentations at the “Future Challenges in Early Language Learning” and “Multilingual Education (ELLME2022) International Conference”, organised by the Universidad de Granada, Spain. Her first presentation titled “Artificial Intelligence and Early Language Instruction: A Meta-Analysis”, discussed on the effectiveness of using Artificial Intelligence (AI) in 3- to 8-year-old students’ early language and literacy learning. Her second presentation titled “Language Output and Bilingual Children’s Heritage Language Learning”, discussed the assessment of 201 kindergarteners’ Mandarin skills (i.e., receptive vocabulary, receptive grammar, and verbal fluency) in Singapore, and the factors influencing of children’s proficiency in speaking and writing in Mandarin.
On 18 May 2022, Dr Sun He was invited by the Harmonious Bilingualism Network (HaBilNet) to give a talk at their second HaBilNet Colloquium themed “Supporting well-being as it relates to growing up and living in a language contact setting” at Frankfurt, Germany. She gave a presentation titled “Harmonious bilingual experience and family wellbeing”, where she explored the relations between maternal language use, children's language use and competence, and maternal and children's social-emotional wellbeing, and discussed the significance of a harmonious bilingual experience for children's and mothers' wellbeing.
On 20 June 2022, Dr Sun He was invited by University of Wollongong, Australia, and Singapore Institute of Management Global Education (SIM GE) to give a talk titled “Eye tracker and skin conductance in bilingual children’s heritage language reading process” at their Wollongong-Singapore Psychology Research Seminar. On 18 July 2022, she was also invited to give a talk titled “Harmonious Bilingualism in Singaporean Children’s Language and Social-Emotional Development”, organised by Ministry of Education’s Curriculum Planning & Development Division (MOE CPDD), National Institute of Education’s Asian Languages & Cultures Unit (NIE ALC), Singapore Centre for Chinese Language (SCCL), and Singapore Examinations and Assessment Board (SEAB).
