Pengajaran Bahasa Ibunda perlu penyegaran semula

Berita Harian featured Associate Professor Dr Hadijah Rahmat, Head/NIE's Asian Languages and Culture Academic Group, who shared her views on the Census 2020 report linked to the Malay Language. She admitted that the Malay community was facing a challenge regarding the teaching and learning of Mother Tongue in Singapore as the English language was becoming more dominant at home, in the Singaporean community as well as the global community. She said that it was about time to review and analyse Mother Tongue education, including the philosophy, content, values, strategy and approaches to teach and motivate amid the new challenges at home, in the national, regional and global context. She also said that there was a need to redesign the education landscape and re-orient approaches in the teaching of Mother Tongue. She pointed out that the values of the Mother Tongue, including the Malay Language, had to be interpreted and shown in a more holistic and unified perspective.
