Introduction

This course is part of a programme designed for learners who aspire to work at managerial and leadership levels in the library industry. The course has two primary objectives. Firstly, to provide an in-depth understanding of the principles and techniques used to develop, manage, and evaluate print and non-print materials in information centres and libraries. Secondly, to develop a foundational understanding of the norms and values traditionally associated with information work, as well as an appreciation of the profession's past achievements.
By completing this course, participants will be well-equipped to take on leadership and managerial roles in the library industry, making significant contributions to the development and success of their organisations.

- Master of Science in Information Studies 

 


This course (1) covers the principles and techniques used for developing, managing, and evaluating print and non-print materials in information centers and libraries; and (2) provides a basic understanding of the norms and values traditionally associated with information work as well as an appreciation of the past achievements of the profession.

To meet the requirement of SkillsFuture Singapore, assessment(s) will be conducted during every course. The assessment(s) include:

  • Class Participation
  • Presentation
  • Written Report 1 & 2

Associate Professor Brendan Luyt

Brendan Luyt is an Associate Professor at the Wee Kim Wee School of Communication & Information, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. He received both his Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) and PhD degrees from the University of Western Ontario, London, Ontario, Canada. He also holds a MA in Political Science from Queen’s University, Kingston, Ontario, Canada. His research focuses broadly on the social and policy landscape of information access both in contemporary and historical times.
