Introduction

The 21st century is often described as a “VUCA” world — one that is volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous. With new demands coming from the 21st workplace, it is thus imperative for educators in various educational institutions to develop students’ capacities to match the needs of the students’ future workplace. This thus indicates an imperative need to change the way educators craft their lessons and learning tasks so as to provide students with ample opportunities to gain authentic learning experiences and enable the transfer of relevant knowledge and skills from their classrooms to solve real world problems.

Learners need to complete any 3 of the following courses to attain the Graduate Certificate in Learning and Development (12 AU). 
  • MDP904 Motivation, Volition and Learning in-Action
  • MDP907 How to Nurture Creative and Happy Learners
  • MDP909 Assessment and Development of 21st Century Competencies
  • MDP906 Personality and Attitude Assessment

 

Upon completion of all courses, learners will fulfill the AU requirements to attain the FlexiMasters in Learning and Development (16 AU).

At the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Apply the understanding of the 21st Century competencies and assessment theories in teaching and learning.
  • Compare and contrast traditional assessment approaches and alternative assessment approaches.
  • Identify the different types of assessment (i.e. diagnostic, formative and summative/evaluative) and explain their purposes.
  • Describe the different modes of assessment (i.e. pen-and-paper tests, performance-based assessments, student self-assessment).
  • Design authentic learning tasks and scoring rubrics.
  • Apply the principles of assessment (i.e. validity, reliability, fairness and flexibility) in the design of assessment tasks and rubrics.
  • Apply the rules of evidence (i.e. valid, sufficient, current, authentic) in collection of assessment data or evidences Conduct and review of assessment design and process including giving student feedback.

To meet the requirement of SkillsFuture Singapore, assessment(s) will be conducted during every course. The assessment(s) include:

  • Written Reports
  • Group Proposal & Presentation
  • Peer evaluation
  • Individual Class Participation

A teaching qualification such as the Postgraduate Diploma in Education or at least one year of work experience in education.
