Introduction
In this second part of the Teaching and Learning in Higher Education course, we will explore a course design approach using the principle of constructive alignment. As you engage in designing your own course, you will reflect on what your students should be able to do by the end of your course, and how to communicate your expectations clearly to your students in a course outline. In addition, we will consider the role of assessment in teaching and learning. Using the SOLO Taxonomy, we will design assessments that align to learning outcomes, and encourage higher levels of thinking. Finally, we will examine effective teaching activities used to engage students for both large- and small-class teaching.
