Introduction
The module aims to deepen students' understanding on the pedagogical approaches in Teaching and learning of Tamil language. It further provides the assessment and evaluation in Tamil Language Education. Students will learn about the theory-practice based pedagogical approaches such as whole language approach, language experience approach, communicative teaching approach, skills based approach, concept based approach, creative pedagogy in teaching Tamil language to their students. They will be able to learn about the Summative and formative assessments and how to encourage students to learn Tamil language with sustained interest. Students will learn about Assessment of learning, Assessment for learning and assessment on learning.
This course is part of:
- Graduate Certificate in Tamil Language Education
- FlexiMasters in Tamil Language Education
- Master of Education in Tamil Language
Learners must complete any three of the following courses to attain the Graduate Certificate in Tamil Language Education (12 AU):
- MTL901 Tamil Curriculum, Materials including IT: Selection and Evaluation (or MTL901A-C)
- MTL903 Tamil Language in Education (or MTL903A-C)
- MTL907 History of Singapore Tamil Education and Tamil Literature (or MTL907A-C)
- MTL908 An Introduction to Sociolinguistics and Bilingualism for Tamil (or MTL908A-C)
Upon completion of the fourth set of courses, learners will fulfil the AU requirements to attain the FlexiMasters in Tamil Language Education (16 AU).
At the end of the course, participants will be able to:
- Four language skills
- Two way communicative skills
- Textbooks and Teaching and learning resources
- Students’ Learning Space
- Continual assessments
- Summative assessments
- Assessment for learning
- How to create an ‘Ideal Singapore Tamilian'
To meet the requirement of SkillsFuture Singapore, assessment(s) will be conducted during every course. The assessment(s) include:
- Individual Research Essay
- Classwork / activities / presentations and class test

Participants are recommended to take the courses in the sequence A, B, and C as the contents of the latter courses build on the foundations of the earlier courses.
