Introduction
This course is ideal for visual artists in product design, graphic design, animation, film making, and photography. It will introduce students to the Munsell Color Space, a system that categorizes colors based on value, hue and chroma. The course will explore the asymmetry of color space through practical examples and exercises, highlighting the practical applications and limitations of the symmetrical color wheel. By understanding the Munsell Color Space, students will be able to appreciate the working range of each color and apply it effectively in their work. Whether designing and applying color in product design, graphic design, animation, film making or photography, this course will benefit visual artists who work with color.At the end of the course, participants will be able to:
- Design a digital vector painting or collage using 3 colours with different tonal ranges,
- Analyse master artworks and recreate them into vector graphics.
- Create a digital painting, digital collage or digital 2D design using the Friend-Enemy Color Model as a guideline

Associate Professor Ng Woon Lam
Associate Professor, School of Art, Design and Media
Ng Woon Lam NWS AWS-DF MFA PhD is a Singaporean artist who have won more than 50 national and international artworks including two top awards (Bronze Medals) from the prestigious American Watercolor Society (founded in 1866). He is a tenure Associate Professor at School of Art, Design & Media, NTU. His academic expertise is in the area of color theory, design concepts and Chinese calligraphy used in art.
