What is the place of faith and doubt in the life of the writer? How might belief (or the lack of it) shape the writer’s relationship within creativity, originality, and inspiration? In this intimate, informal conversation between Singapore Literature Prize winner Desmond Francis Xavier Kon Zhicheng-Mingdé and Asst. Professor Samuel Caleb Wee, the two writers discuss their recent poetry books, Heart Fiat: New Catholic Poems (Poetry Festival Singapore) and https://everything.is (Ajar Press) respectively. This event will also feature student writers reading from their works. Refreshments will be provided.
Desmond Francis Xavier Kon Zhicheng-Mingdé has authored 19 books, across a variety of genres. A former journalist, he has edited over 25 titles. He is the recipient of the IBPA Benjamin Franklin Award, Singapore Literature Prize, two Illumination Christian Book Awards, two Independent Publisher Book Awards, and five Living Now Book Awards.
Samuel Caleb Wee is an Assistant Professor of English at Nanyang Technological University whose creative work has appeared in publications such as Esquire, QLRS, and OF ZOOS. He previously co-edited this is how you walk on the moon (Ethos Books, 2016), an anthology of experimental short fiction. https://everything.is is his first book of poetry.
