Visit by Prospective Students on SPMS Discovery Day

The School of Physical and Mathematical Sciences (SPMS) held an in-person outreach event, SPMS Discovery Day, on Saturday 14 May 2022. About 300 prospective students and their family members visited SPMS, attending talks and engaging in informal interactions with SPMS faculty and student ambassadors.

During the past two years, this yearly invitation-only event for prospective SPMS undergraduates had been run in an online or hybrid format. This year’s was the first fully physical event since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020.

That Saturday morning, lecture theatres at SPMS were filled to capacity by visitors, who listened to talks about the undergraduate programmes at SPMS, sharing sessions by SPMS students and alumni, as well as sample lectures covering some of the content of the undergraduate curriculum. Visits to the physics and chemistry laboratories were also conducted.

During the informal interaction sessions, SPMS faculty members were present to answer the visitors’ detailed questions, while student ambassadors shared their personal experiences of living and studying at NTU. The visitors were also given the chance to take bus tours of NTU’s Yunnan campus, including iconic landmark buildings such as The Hive.

The event was organised by the SPMS Outreach team. Thank you to everyone who supported and participated in this event.
