Netflix says IMDA got it to remove five titles in Singapore

The Straits Times, page B6

Streaming service giant Netflix revealed in its inaugural Environmental Social Governance (ESG) report recently that it took down nine pieces of content from its library in selected locations around the world after receiving government demands to do so. Out of the nine, five titles were removed from the service in Singapore following demands by the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA). NTU’s Asst Prof Liew Kai Khiun said that censorship in this era of digital media has moved from denial of access to maintaining official political and moral positions. He would have preferred the authorities to publicly request such take-downs in the spirit of transparency rather than be revealed by the content provider.
