Leadership, Management & Organisation

Part of Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, the Leadership, Management, and Organisation Division is a community of more than thirty international scholars from fifteen different countries, with PhDs from research-intensive universities on four continents. We work in four major fields viz., culture and cultural intelligence, leadership, human resource management, and communication management.

In what is the world’s first undergraduate programme in human resource (HR) consulting, our students acquire distinctive competencies in HR consulting, including HR research; talent sourcing, acquisition, and assessment; talent motivation, rewards, and performance management; people analytics; employment legislation; and cultural intelligence. 

Our communication management curriculum leverages on the latest technology for online collaborative learning and extensive 360°-style feedback on students’ presentations and writing. 

At the graduate level, our leadership courses deliver strategic leadership insights, linking the design of talent management system, executive coaching, and communication strategies to the achievement of the strategic visions of organisations.

    Editorial Roles at Academy of Management Journal, Human Resource Management Wiley, and Journal of Personality and Social Psychology

    Associate Professor Trevor YU, Associate Professor Jing ZHU, and Associate Professor ZOU Xi were appointed Associate Editors of Human Resource Management Wiley, Academy of Management Journal, and Journal of Personality and Social Psychology respectively.

    Academy of Management Journal Paper Development Workshop on 7 December 2022

    The Division of Leadership, Management and Leadership (LMO) of NBS held an Academy of Management Journal Paper Development Workshop on 7 December 2022. A total of 80 applications from the Southeast Asia region were received and 40 papers were accepted for the workshop. The Editor-in-Chief, along with 5 Deputy and Associate Editors of the journal from Switzerland, the Netherlands, the U.S., Hong Kong, and Associate Professor Jing Zhu from the LMO division provided feedback to the participants and their papers. The workshop was greatly received by the participants and benefited the management community. The Academy of Management Journal is the leading flagship empirical journal in the field of business and management.

    Our Research

    LMO has built research excellence in culture, cultural intelligence (CQ), and leadership, which is anchored in three research centers: Center for Leadership and Cultural Intelligence (CLCI), Culture Science Institute (CSI), and the Asian Business Case Center (ABCC). Our research studies are published in top-tier journals, including the Academy of Management Review, Academy of Management Journal, Strategic Management Journal, Journal of Applied Psychology, Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, Organisational Behavior and Human Decision Processes, etc.

    LMO will continue to build its strengths in the following research areas: Culture and Cultural Intelligence; Leadership; Human Resource Management and Communication Management.

    We will also be developing research expertise in neuroscience, an emerging area of research in the global research community.
